2022 Ford Bronco Sport Release Date And Price

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Release Date And Price– The Bronco Sport represents one half of Ford’s resurrection of the Bronco name. Sometimes playfully referred to as the Baby Bronco, the Bronco Sport is an off-road-capable compact crossover based on the Ford Escape. It’s smaller and less off-road focused than the standard Bronco and uses an independent rear suspension instead of the Bronco’s truck-like live rear axle.

Since the Bronco Sport made its debut for 2021, we’re not expecting any significant updates for the 2022 model year. The Bronco Sport competes with other small SUVs including the Jeep Cherokee and Compass, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4, and Honda CR-V.

It’s been nearly a year since the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport was revealed as the “baby brother” of the regular Ford Bronco. The surprisingly capable off-road-focused compact crossover entered production at the Ford Hermosillo Assembly Plant back in October of last year and has proven to be a hit with consumers thus far, despite facing a number of challenges related to the semiconductor chip shortage. Now, Ford Authority has learned from sources familiar with Ford’s production plans when 2022 Ford Bronco Sport order banks are scheduled to open, as well as when production will begin.

Trail Control is another segment-exclusive feature available for all Bronco models. This technology is basically adaptive cruise control for off-roading situations. Available at speeds up to 20 mph when traveling forward and 6 mph going in reverse, Trail Control manages the vehicle’s throttle and braking so the driver can maintain focus on steering and navigating a path on the trail (or lack thereof).

Bronco 2- and 4-Door owners get extra trail tech as part of the available Trail Toolbox. Yet another first for the segment, the Trail Toolbox is a suite of off-road-ready features that includes the aforementioned Trail Control as well as Trail Turn Assist and Trail One-Pedal Drive. By applying the brakes to one of the rear wheels, Trail Turn Assist uses torque vectoring to decrease the SUV’s turning radius while off-roading. Trail One-Pedal Drive simplifies acceleration and braking control when rock crawling, allowing the driver to manage speed or stop the Bronco without touching the brake pedal.

Even on the muddiest of days, an available class-exclusive (yes, another one) front-view off-road camera with a lens washer acts as an additional spotter on the Bronco Sport. Bronco 2- and 4-Door models receive additional visual guidance with an available surround-view camera system that includes spotter vantage points.

The bigger Broncos can also be had with an available segment-exclusive semi-active hydraulic stabilizer bar disconnect design. The system provides the flexibility of disconnection for maximum wheel articulation with reconnection available under all conditions. This improves vehicle stability at higher speeds while offering maximum articulation and increased ramp angle indexes on off-camber terrain.

2022 Ford Bronco Sport Engine

Ford provided Bronco Sport buyers with two engine options at launch: a powerful turbo-four as the upgrade engine and, yes, a turbocharged three-cylinder as the base powerplant. Both mills should carry over for 2022. With either engine, an eight-speed automatic delivers power to all four wheels.

The 1.5-liter turbo-three develops a healthy 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque that, in our First Test, motivated the Bronco Sport to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds. Three-cylinder Bronco Sports are EPA-rated at 25/28 mpg city/highway for the 2021 model year. Shelling out for the Badlands trim swaps the three-pot for a 2.0-liter turbo-four that generates 250 hp and 277 lb-ft. The more powerful engine scoots the Bronco Sport to 60 in 6.5 seconds, and 2021 EPA fuel economy numbers read 21/26 mpg.
