2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid Redesign

This 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid all-new truck is a unibody construction with one configuration on offer, a four-door “SuperCrew” cabin that seats five and a truck bed that’s about 54.4 inches or just a smidge.

Ever 4.5 feet long. For comparison, that’s half a foot shorter than the Ranger box with a SuperCrew cab.

The Maverick, which TechCrunch had an opportunity to test, comes standard with a hybridized 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that produces 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque.

It’s married to a continuously variable transmission and sends power to the front wheels.

In this standard configuration, the tiny truck is meant to deliver big on fuel economy, with an estimated 40 mpg of city miles and 500 miles of range on a single tank.

It’s capable of carrying 1,500 pounds of cargo and towing 2,000 pounds of whatever you want behind it.

Anyone seeking a bit more grunt can upgrade to an optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that provides 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

This engine is linked to a more traditional 8-speed automatic gearbox and can drive either the front or all four wheels.

In terms of capability, its payload numbers stay the same but it tows 2,000 pounds of cargo on its own, or twice that amount with the optional 4K Tow Package (AWD-models only).

2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid Engine

After completing a 50-mile trip with 25 miles covered on electric power alone V6, Levine extracted 50 miles-per-gallon from the 2022 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid he was driving.

The all-wheel drive version loses a mere one mile-per-gallon across the board, as that configuration is rated at 22, 29, and 25 miles-per-gallon in the city, highway, and combined, respectively.
